Cooper Martin Building

In 1898 a group of Cattlemen from Indian Creek, CO purchased the Wilson Brothers Mercantile business and store in Moab. In 1905 the cattlmen-merchants incorporated under the name of Cooper, Martin & Company and the next year sought bids from contractors to erect a 2-story brick building to house the expanded mercantile. In April of 1906, contractors Mix, Strong and Thompson began work. Stone for the project was obtained near the mouth of Mill Creek Canyon.  The second story of the building has housed the U.S. Forest Service, The Grand Valley Times, La Sal Mountain Telephone and Electric Company. Today it houses the World Famous Slickrock Cafe.
